First off let me say that Kalyway 10.5.1 is my first successful OSX install on a HP nx9420 (with nvidia graphics) after about a year of trying off and on.

With some searching I got the network driver installed and things seem pretty stable. QE/CI is working with nv 7900gtx graphics card and I am trying to work out the rest.

It seems there is a long standing problem with the audio card, but I can live with out if need be.

I do however want to get beth of those cpu cores working. It is an intel t7400 cpu. I started messing around with ACPI kexts, but I thought I would before I really screw something up. Seems a lot of folks live with 1 cpu, so this could be of help to many.

Is there any chance? Or am I spinning wheels needlessly?

What kernel should I be using?

Do I need to patch a kernel?

"uname -a" reports:

9.1.0 Darwin Kernel Version 9.1.0: Wed Oct 31 17:46:22 PDT 2007; root:xnu-1228.0.2~1/RELEASE_I386 i386

I installed with mbr efi, currently I have both cores enabled in BIOS, but need to boot with cpus=1 to get to the desktop.

Thanks in advance.

I do know there are solutions for cpus=1 for nforce motherboard by replacing the kernel.. but i do not think there is a solution for laptop boards yet. Maybe in 10.5.2

Don't feel bad - I've got a Core 2 Quad system that I have to use cpus=1 on! :) It sucks, but at least everything else works - sound, LAN, all 10 USB ports, Firewire, QE/CI video with Radeon 2600 Pro card. I'm currently running the SSE2 kernel, I even have to use cpus=1 to boot the Kalyway DVD. Without cpus=1 it just reboots after a few seconds. The only good news is that with only 1 CPU running, I guess all 4 megs of cache is available to it! OS X runs very fast!

I think it's due to the limited amount of settings in my BIOS - there is no ACPI 2.0 setting, or Plug and Play OS for example. I have tried changing all the settings I do have but nothing helps.
