I've been a mac user for 3 years, and after my macbook broke (logic board issues) and apple would not repair it, I have decided on building my next computer so it is upgradeable and components can be fixed if/when they break. Here is what I'm thinking, my questions are in bold:

Motherboard: ASUS P5W DH Deluxe Intel 975 Express Socket LGA775 ATX MBR - $140

Question: I have the money for a ASUS P5E LGA775 x38 ATX MBR, would it be a good investment to purchase it instead or use the money for other components?

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor - $279

Video Card: GeForce 8600GT 512mb video card - $105

Will this work with both the P5E and P5W MBR?

Ram: Depends on my MBR, I'll probably just get 2GB to start out with - $40

Case: Antec Sonata III w/ built in 500W PS -$80

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB 3.5" SATA 3GB/S HD - $105

CD/DVD: LiteOn LH-20A1S Burner - $29

And then into the more cosmetic aspects of my machine:

Keyboard: BTC 6300CL Silver USB Slim Luminescent Keyboard - $55

Mouse: Logitech SBF-90 - $5

Display: EDIT: I think I'm going to just look around on craiglist for a cheap LCD Monitor

OS X 10.5 - $110

I'm really excited to be building this machine, and would appreciate it if someone could answer my questions or give me any advice when it comes to choosing components. Thanks in advance!
