Using both the Kalyway 10.5.1 and iAtkos distros, I can get OS X to begin to boot, but it fails during the startup process to a gray screen hang (without Apple logo; the white Apple logo disappears). If I select verbose mode, the terminal will disappear and I will get a hang on a black screen. Has anyone experienced a similar problem, or know of a way to reconcile it?

I thought for a moment it might be my GPU (Radeon 2600 XT), but I'm not even getting to the Desktop. I have the drivers and kexts for the 2600, but am unsure if I need to install them before installation somehow (by patching the installation image), or if OS X should have no problem booting and I should install it later.

So, I still can't boot past the gray screen hang. Help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

a detailed list of your hardware and configuration would be helpful

Sorry, that would help! I thought I had it in my sig.

Configuation:

  • Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R
  • Intel Dual-Core E2180 2.0 GHz
  • ATI Radeon 2600XT 512MB DDR2 (Saphire)
  • 3 GB Memory (Crucial Ballistix)

Drive Configuation - 3 Drives:

  • 180GB IDE - Windows XP (1 Partition)
  • 100GB IDE - 2 Partitions:
    • 15 GB - Mac HFS+ (Leopard Installation Target)
    • 85 GB - FAT32 (For storage/future use)

    [*]500GB SATA - Storage

[*]SATA - Samsung DVD +/- RW

It's interesting to note that I had to unplug all SATA drives (including the DVD) to get the install DVD to successfully boot, so since I only have 1 IDE port, I ended up disconnecting my WinXP partition, so my current setup that's causing this specific problem is the following:

  • 100GB IDE Slave - 2 Partitions (HFS+ Leopard target and Fat32 Storage)
  • IDE DVD drive - Master

After trying for some time, I really would like to finally Leopard to boot. Thanks for your assistance!

Have you selected any customized settings? In kalyway the only thing you should select is the vanilla kernel (if ur hardware is compatible) and i would select MBR map. I am not familiar with your motherboard, but HCL says everything works out of the box. the only other thing i would suggest is trying leopard on the sata drive, or make sure that ur ide is primary master.

I selected both the Vanilla kernal and MBR boot. I also selected an Azaila audio driver for realtek. That's it. I'll try moving the HD drive to master and see if that helps
