Don Bene
Hi there, I want to install MAC OSX, like many other people in this forum , on a Vaio with 2x1,6GHz; 2GB and Geforce 7600GO. Im a little bit affraid, because in many other posts I read, that there is a possiblity to destroy the system. So I want to install the OS on a external drive. I have a SSD (Solid State Disk), which ownes 8GB. I use it with the ExpressCard/x34 Port in my Laptop. So Up and download is about 18/8 mbit/s. So my question: I there a possibility to install the system on the SSD without damaging my running system (Vista/Ubuntu)? My Insall-DVD is a version of iAktos, if you wanna know it. Thank you very much for answering .. So is there a chance to install the system without touching the HDD in my Vaio? Sorry for my english and if there is a posting like this, please ignore or delete it.. SticMAC™
Yes during the setup you have the option to choose the TARGET DISK, as long as you prepare it with diskutilities, and your BIOS supports booting from USB, you are OK!! I have a 120GB USB which can dual boot 10.5.1 or 10.4.11 with no problems! You should also be SAFE as if you don't load any software to access your win drive it will stay READ ONLY! Don Bene
Great! Thank you very much. I dont have to fix something? Only plug the external Storrage? Special formatting? Or just buy and plug? If I pull out the Storrage, Vista and Ubuntu (via Grub Loader) are ready to use without problems? Is it slowlier? "Just" 18/8 Mbit's read and write speed.. SticMAC™
You will have to Partition/Format as you would a internal harddrive ie, MBR or GUID depending on how serious you want to go! also backup all your stuff on the USB drive somewhere else! BE SURE YOUR MB SUPPORTS BOOTING FROM USB SticMAN Great! Thank you very much. I dont have to fix something? Only plug the external Storrage? Special formatting? Or just buy and plug? Don Bene
My Notebook is able to boot from a USB-source. But, if I install it, which Bootloader I have to use and how I have to configure it?
