DoctorJon
Hi all. Well, I finally downloaded Mac OS X 10.4.8 [JaS AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1 & PPF2].iso and burned it to my IDE DVD. Booting from it didn't recognise any SATA drives, but looking through this forum, I noticed that that's not unusual, so I attached the target drive via a USB port and everything went ok. Install went ahead ok and, although it didn't reboot automatically, a manual reboot gave me the apple screen and the message that I needed to power cycle the PC. This time however, even the BIOS would not recognise the USB drive. So I attached it back the the SATA port (3), selected which drive to boot from in the BIOS and got the loading screen. However, it just froze with the little whirlygig thingy running and a 'no entry' sign on top of the Apple core (sic). I've searched as much as I can and as far as I can see, the file which I need to modify is the info.plist in this location: E:\System\Library\Extensions\AppleAHCIPort.kext\Contents I'm running MacDrive so editing files in Windoze is no problem. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I figure I need to tell it what my PC is 'made of' so to speak. Ah, there's the rub.... This link (http://brody.org.uk/Report.htm ) has everything there is to know about this machine (it's a branded Nvidia mobo - very new) but I have no clue about rewriting the plist file to reflect the contents. I found out about the ICH8 patch but I think that it will only be good for finding the SATA drives on install. Anyway, both MagicIso and PowerIso fail to extract the JaS iso for some reason, so applying the patch to the ISO seems a non starter. There must be loads of peeps out there way smarter than me who might be kind enough to help a rapidly ageing Windoze user to get a decent OS on his nice box. Please? Doc.
