Can you guys please help me out with few of these questions?

My computer is Sony Vaio Laptop SZ240.

I installed Kalyway 10.5.1 on GUID with EFIv8. Did not select the Vanilla Kernel and ACPI or something.

Everything works great except WIFI which I don't really care.

Well, as far as I know, if I press F8 during boot up and type "-vanilla," OSX will use the vanilla kernel. Am I correct?

But is there any way to actually check what kernel am I using? (other than trying to update through Apple.com)

Also, my CPU temperature is at 46C when idle. Not really high, but the fan is still running little faster than it was in Windows OS.

So, I was just wondering if there is any ways to change the fan speed within OS by tweaking some kext file. (such as AppleFan.kext or AppleBlower.kext)

CPU temperature is same regardless of what kernel I use. (either I let the system boot normally or type -vanilla)

I am willing to take risk and let the CPU temp go as high as 65C~70C and run the fan at its full speed only when necessary.

There is no AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext in this release, and I even tried to remove the AppleCPUThermo.kext but it does not change anything.

Has anyone been able to somehow quite down the fan noise in Laptops?

Thanks~
