Scorpio123
I'm thinking of getting a new laptop in the next couple of months, and this VAIO particularly catches my fancy.. Obviously, one of my main concerns is running MAC OS X Leopard on it, and i don't want to go in for a Macbook or a MacBook Pro, because frankly they are poo in terms of spec for the price... Description:- Sony VAIO VGN-FZ21Z -Intel® Centrino® Duo processor technology with Intel® Core™2 Duo processor T7500 (2.20 GHz and 800 MHz FSB) With Mobile Intel® PM965 Express Chipset -Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium (English version) -300 GB Serial ATA 4200 rpm hard disk drive -2 GB DDR2-667 SDRAM (2*1024 MB), maximum 4 GB DDR2-667 SDRAM - in the case of 4GB, a portion of the system memory over 3GB might not be available to the operating system -15.4" WXGA (1280 x 800) Widescreen X-black LCD screen with double lamp technology -NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GS graphics processing unit with Total Available Graphics Memory of 1023 MB and dedicated Video Memory of 256 MB -Blu-ray Disc™ Drive (up to 50 GB of storage) -Built-in 'Motion Eye' Digital Camera (30 frames per second, 1.3 Mega Pixels) with Motion Picture Function (max. resolution (pixels) SXGA/1280*1024/raw data) -Wireless LAN IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n - Intel® PRO/Wireless 802.11a/b/g/n ; Bluetooth® technology -3 Hi-Speed USB 2.0 ports More info here: http://vaio.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProduct.ac...ry=VN+FZ+Series Now the main concern is the graphics card, has the GeForce 8600 proven to work properly on Leopard? Another question, although likely impossible, will the Blu-Ray drive work? I know Toast Titanium has Blu-Ray support so i was wondering... If anybody has any experience i would appreciate it!! amity
I have this laptop running osx86 [leo 10.5.2, efi & stock kernel]. The 8600M GS gfx card is proving to be a pain. I haven't seen reports of it working on a sony laptop (everyone appears to be stuck with a blank screen on both internal laptop display and VGA out). Blu-ray functionality in osx86: No idea about. its on my 'get working' list but way down below GFX and WiFi. Its a peach of a laptop. runs pretty hot tho, can get uncomfortable to have on your lap. -A
jl8080
This is a really tasty laptop. I think I'm gonna hold out for a bit longer though!
