DerekZoolander
Has anyone figured out how to solve the "waiting for root device" error when trying to install to a SATA hard drive from a SATA DVD drive? I'm trying to get Leopard on here and no matter what switches I use (are there any I'm missing?) and no matter what BIOS config I use, it doesn't work. I don't have jumpers or anything since it's an SATA drive and I've searched for other posts but none really have answers. Anyone got this?
stipan
Do you actually succeed in installing Leo on your HDD? If so, you may have a problem that's identical to mine: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=79479 If you aren't stuck with an MSI P35 mobo like me, try enabling AHCI mode from the BIOS and try booting that way. DerekZoolander
unfortunately, i don't have the ability to set that in the bios. i'm on an asus sli motherboard. it doesn't have any options (that i can tell) for setting AHCI.
stipan
If you can't find that in your BIOS, then I guess you're stuck with me and the "Still waiting for root device" message... Will somebody please give me a hint here? If the installation DVD can recognize my SATA drives, why can't my installed Leo do the same thing? Evi1d33d
Actually I get it too but I was able to install it by keep retrying (just restart and try again) and got it onto my SATA drive. But I'm still trying to figure out how to get darwin boot utility to work...
DerekZoolander
what do you mean by you just kept trying? did you make any changes in between tries? what switches did you use? any suggestions?
dashaund
Installing from a SATA DVD drive to my SATA Hard Drive was the ONLY way I got it to work. Make sure you have AHCI enable in your BIOS (sorry, IDE doesn't work). Also, your DVD drive had to be on SATA port 0 and the hard drive has to be on SATA port 1 (I think that's the way...if not reverse it...but I do know it has to be port 0 and port 1...for some reason it won't install on anything different). I had to buy a SATA DVD drive to even get it to work...IDE won't see the SATA hard drive. Good luck!

wmarsh
Has anyone figured out how to solve the "waiting for root device" error when trying to install to a SATA hard drive from a SATA DVD drive? I don't have jumpers or anything since it's an SATA drive and I've searched for other posts but none really have answers. Anyone got this?I had that problem with my Dell E520And I did not want to change Bios to AHCI, as then I would have to reinstall XP & Vista.macdotnub and kalyway 10.4.10 did boot natively in raid mode. I used them to copy Leo install DVD to USB drive, then edited kexts to make it boot.Guide posted here:(Your device ids are likely different)http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=510839Will somebody please give me a hint here? If the installation DVD can recognize my SATA drives, why can't my installed Leo do the same thing?Because Leo installs its own kexts. You have to edit twice.First to edit the kexts on installation media to make it boot.Second to edit installed kexts on Leo so it too will boot.
