GUID Partition Table w NTFS partition

I have a 750GB HDD i have partition in 150GB for OS X 10.5.1, and 600 GB for Storage.

I would like to use the GUID Partition Table for the drive, and format the OS X partition with HFS+, and the 600 GB Storage partition using NTFS.

I installed OS X using Kalway's 10.5.1 OS X install disc and set my drive up to use a GUID partition table.

I have installed NTFS-3G/MacFuse and tried to format the 600GB partition to NTFS (Windows NT Filesystem 3G) via Disk Utility. When I format/erase the partition using NTFS in Disk Utility I get the error message: "Volume Erase failed. Volume Erase failed with the error: The underlying task reported failure on exit."

I tried booting into a WinXP setup disk to format the partition to NTFS from that, however WinXP setup did not recognize the existing partition structure (im assuming because the partition table is GUID and not MBR).

My question is can drive using the GUID Partition Table have a NTFS partition, and if so, how do i format the partition to NTFS. If not, should I reinstall OS X and set the harddrive to use MBR instead of GUID?

Thanks

I was able to resolve my issue. It turned out the the user account i logged into did not have permission to open /dev/disk0s3.

I looked in the Console and saw the following:

1/6/08 11:59:42 AM Disk Utility[229] Preparing to erase : “STORAGE”
1/6/08 11:59:42 AM Disk Utility[229] Partition Scheme: GUID Partition Table

I changed the ownership of /dev/disk0s3 from root:operator to my_user:operator, re-launched Disk Utility and formatted the drive to NTFS.

After the format the Console reported:

Hey man how did you do this? In terminal with what commands? Please respond soon.
