OS X 10.4.1 installed, advice please :P

Oh, the sheer irony that in typing the description of this topic I typed @ instead of ". Bah.

Anyway, I can't complain really - 10.4.1 installed first time. System is as follows...

 

Acer TravelMate 4151LMi

Intel 915GM chipset (well, it's a 915 anyway)

Intel Pentium M 1.6GHz (SSE2)

512MB DDR RAM

Intel 915 integrated graphics (working fine)

Broadcom 440x LAN (working fine)

Intel 2200BG MiniPCI Wireless (surprise surprise, not working)

 

Right... onto the problems.

I've accepted the fate that for now at least, wireless is an impossibility. Life moves on.

However... I don't think that being able to type a backslash should be an impossibility. I have a slightly weird laptop keyboard (backslash key is between slash and right shift). This key does nothing in OS X (checked with the on-screen keyboard - no assignment at all.) Moreover, my hash key seems to have become my backslash key.

Also - even when set to British mode, OS X still prints an @ when i type Shift-2, when it should be double quotes. I'm assuming this is because there's only one kind of keyboard the OS was designed for, so they assumed that's all it would ever be used on.

So... does anyone know any way to "manually" change the key bindings? (ie. change the key assignments around so the keyboard works vaguely normally)

 

Moving on... as I said, i'm on 10.4.1 (the tiger-x86.bz2 image). Is there any point in trying to upgrade to 10.4.3 (8F1099 or 1111) and is it even possible without a reinstall?

 

I know these are really minor complaints (almost stupidly small), but it's better to ask than sit there grumbling!
