Updating from Tiger to Leopard

I'v been using Tiger full time for almost a year now. Recently I installed Leopard on another partition using Uphuck release (iATKOS).

My question is, is there a way to update my Tiger installation using that release or any other one?

Going thru the hassle of re-installing all of my applications on a clean Leopard installation is a problem for me and for many others i am sure.

Any help/guides will be appreciated.

hi ...

not sure weather it'll work for you or not....but my experiance

i was able to upgrade from 10.4.8 to 10.5 ToH relese

but, condition i didn't tried it with patch installed as, when i goolge it shows it might produce karnel panic.

so, do it at your own risk.

apart from that if installs works....system will be same i guess!!

hopefully it might help you to take decision :)

good luck

I simply installed Kalyway over my existing installation of XxX Tiger 10.4.10 with Efi 8.0, vanilla kernel and GUID partition scheme. Of course I made a clone installation of my Tiger to an external usb harddrive and before checked, whether i could boot from this external harddrive in the case, i could not boot from internal harddisk.

There was one problem:

I could not log in into my old account from the Tiger installation. I did delete /var/db/.AppleSetupDone and could create a new user with admin rights. i logged in with the new user, created a new user with my old account name, and with chown to my old home directory i took over my homedirectory again.

Okay, I posted this 3 days ago, and was too eager to start the updated experience even before I get the useful hints from you guys, so this what I did in the last 3 days:

1- Using iAKToS 1.0i, I installed Leopard over Tiger with stock kernel and efi. The partition was mbr and kept so. Installation went fine, but when booting I got the kernel panic. I rebooted from another Tiger partition/Installation and fixed the disk which I installed Leopard on. When rebooting the kernel panic didn't happen, instead I was faced with an endless error regarding launchd and directoryService.

2- I installed Leopard on an empty partition and booted just fine, then i copied all the system and essential files (using superDuper) from that to the problematic Leopard update. Didn't help, same endless error.

3- I downloaded Kalyway latest release.

Now I was thinking of trying to install from Kalyway over the failed Leopard update.

I dont know if I should try Kibitz fix first, it seems that i lost my accounts because of superDuper, I think it overwritten something in the accounts settings because now when i try Migration Assistant from the fresh Leopard installation, it gives me 0 kb to be copied, although it detects the accounts, it doesn't detect the differences, my fault.

Ok here is the update:

1- I deleted /var/db/.AppleSetupDone and rebooted, but it didnt help, I am still faced with the repeted launchd error about DirectoryService. I dont know what the error really means, but i guess its something to do with the accounts or the journal index?

2- I tried to reinstall from Kalyway's, but after starting the installation (starting the files copying stage) it gave me a msg that the os cant be installed with a restart button.

3- I booted from the partition and tried /sbin/fsck -fy no errors found, then /sbin/mount -uw / followed by /usr/sbin/diskutil repairPermissions / and now i got could not repair permission because an undelying task error 9972.

Same happened if i tried to repair permissions when booting from Kayway's.

Now I am stuck, any other suggestions is appreciated.
