xeraphine
i've been running 10.4.9 for months on my hackintosh, and it's been fine. the first signs of problems happened a week ago when the computer would completely choke everytime i tried to copy files to another drive, formatted with FAT32 (i've been using that as a backup for months, too). I disconnected that HD just to be safe and everything went back to normal. Then this morning, the computer literally randomly choked up, so i rebooted the system as normal, thinking it was just a hitch, but then on the white bootup screen, the little "null" symbol showed up. Having struggled for a week back in August to get 10.4.9 installed, I knew that was a bad sign. I rebooted in verbose mode and it gave me the "still waiting for root device" error for hours. I reset and tried again to the same issue. I'm really at a loss here, and even though there's no really IMPORTANT data on that hard drive, i'd hate to lose a lot of it, especially considering my back-up drive is down for the count. i mean, i knew OSX86 wasn't stable, which was the purpose of that FAT32 drive, but when that died...well...things aren't looking up for me this holiday season. any help at all would be greatly appreciated

xeraphine
it's an IDE drive set to master, and nothing in BIOS was changed. It was quite normal usage. (firefox/pages/adium)
