Hope I'm not asking something already coverd but didn't see this issue anywhere, not just here anywhere!

I just built my first computer and it works great, not smoking or anything.

Asrock board per some instructions i saw,

P4 3.20E processor,

using on board sound and vid, no cards.

160Gig western digital SATA (only one)

running at a cool temp because i used a zalman heatsink & fan with arctic silver,

i don't recall the number it's the one with copper and alum and has the blue led inside the fan.

cpu is always 32 degrees C to 40 degrees C and the M/B is alwas much less 36 is the highest I have seen it get, usualy less.

I'm basically mostly a noob, not much of a hacker, i can navagate from the shell of a a linux and know some commands but no experience with BSD or Darwin or Mac.

I first put on Maklar Tiger 10.4.1 with patch 1 or whatever it's called, the one that works great,

and thought that I didn't have sound but it is there and sounds clear with very high quality with head phones on or if you hold the speakers up to your ears, but it has very low volume.

and in the midi set up, it was already set for 48000 so I didn't have to change that.

then I put on a second partition a later version which caused everything to go awry almost like a virus or something and it prevented me from getting accsess to my bios, I finally was able to get in only by using two key boards because some of the stuff would only function with the mac keyboard and some would only function with the windows (emachine) keyboard,

I erased it all and now have only reintalled the first version which is good enough for me because Movie Magic Screenwriter works great on it and that mostly all I needed from it,

but would like to know if anyone knows what may be causing low volume,

I haven't put in the vender ID like those instructions because it was not clear about if that is required if you are using the on board sound... and because i didn't have no sound just low sound.

any idea?

Has anyone else had this prob? Good quality sound very low volume?

Is it normal for it to be like this on this board?

Do I need speakers with a built in amp or something?

Yeah, speakers with a built in amp is minimum (or just connect your soundcard to a real Hi-Fi amp), without this I doubt that you can have high volume. If your connect then your head-phone to your amp it should be better.

Thanks DrJägermeister

I'll gets some wires and do this.

My Mobo works with Sound and S-ATA very fast. XBench has Score of 70,xx
 With amped speakers?

I have 320 W speakers with built-in amp, works perfectly, but smaller volume than Win XP. Maybe you need to buy a pair of new speakers, they're really cheap, between 5 and 15 U.S. Dollars (depending of model and brand).
