BJMoose
Hi, I'm looking for a usb tv tuner that is QAM compatible. I've seen several that do ATSC and NTSC but if I understand correctly, QAM is necessary to pick up the OTA hi def signal that comes directly through the cable. I can get 8 HD channels over the cable and would like to be able to view them on the computer. BJMoose
Thanks, I check them out. I was hoping someone had some first hand experience with these or others. The advertising usually all looks good until you hook things up. Carlitoes
I was eyeing the Elgato EyeTV for my hackintosh but it was a lil' bit too expensive. There was an equivalent Pinnacle product called "TV for Mac" (around $130) that used a lite version of the Elgato software. I noticed that Pinnacle also had a version for Windows that was much cheaper called "PCTV Pro" ($69 @ bestbuy this week). I got that, and downloaded the trial software from Elgato. Lo and behold, it works. Over the air HD on my hackintosh! problem is, my rig is only a P4 3.0 HT, so it's a little choppy on 1080i broadcasts like NBC. Works well with 720p content though. judging by your signature, i'm sure your rig won't even break a sweat recording 1080i broadcasts. retromacg3
Check out HDHOMERUN, I have it, but you will need XP or Virtual XP to configure it at first. It's HD streaming over IP, and has dual tuners. Works great with VLC player as a stream. You cannot easily use a wireless connection to watch HD, but it is possible (bandwidth is too high). I have comcast, and QAM works. Have not tried ATSC yet, but since there are two tuners, you can setup both. EDIT - it won't do NTSC, but through cable, it picks up all the SD digital QAM channels as well. NTSC will be gone soon anyway in the US at least. http://www.silicondust.com/wiki/products/hdhomerun Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/77236-usb-tv-tuner-for-a-mac/#findComment-580411 Share on other sites

Schwinn555
USB 2.0 is plenty fast enough for HD OTA ! Why buy a product with lite version of the eye TV software when you can buy the full Eye TV USB tuner for the same price or less? OWC has refurbished for $69.95 with software and new ones for $129.00 . Mine works great with my HackIntosh . http://eshop.macsales.com/search/TV+Tuners no connection to the above seller except as a happy customer Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/77236-usb-tv-tuner-for-a-mac/#findComment-725830 Share on other sites
