Guest trogdor3222
Ok, this is bad. I have a Sony Vaio PCV-RX551 desktop PC. It came with a 60GB hard drive and I added a second one from an old pc (8GB). I had everything set up right, both hard drives were installed correctly, I had XP on the 60GB and Linspire linux on the 8GB dual booting fine. I downloaded the OSx86 img and copied it to my usb drive. Used the live cd and dd'ed the image to my 8GB hard drive (erasing Linspire in the process, which was intentional). I did notice one thing though, Justin keeps referring to a 6GB .img, but mine was only 2GB but had the same name and all. So it finished and I shut down my pc removed my usb drive and live cd. I booted and I got this message: Grub Loading stage 1.5 Grub loading, please wait... Error 17. I found this wierd b/c I had never used Grub (Linspire had its own dual boot program) and I thought I'd be able to select an OS through Darwin. So I just rebooted and my bios displays this warning: DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER So I restart again but enter the BIOS setup and my BIOS lists the following: Primary IDE Master= NONE Primary IDE Slave= NONE Secondary IDE Master= My DVD Drive Secondary IDE Slave= My DVD Burner I tried booting to the XP Recovery Console to fix the boot sector and it says setup could not detect any hard drive. I tried my Maxtor MaxBoot floppy but that couldn't find anything either. Is there anyway to maybe flash my BIOS from a boot disk? Because at the moment, that it the only thing I think might help. I will try to put the hard drives in another PC and see if that PC can recognize them, and I will edit my post with my results. I am absolutely lost and have no clue what to do. I can not lose those 60GBs of data! I'm goning to kill myself for doing this. Please, if you can suggest anything that might help, do it. I am open to try anything to revive my PC. Even if I have to reformat I will (I was going to do that but all my format boot disks dont recognize any hard drive). With MUCH Thanks and Appreciation, Chris Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/762-huge-problem-with-bios/ Share on other sites

The BIOS scans my IDE connections but finds nothing, its not the hard drive though becuase my other system read and identified the drive. I think the boot sector is screwed up but I cant fix it b/c I cant access the drive. *bangs head into wall* this is so frusturating! Thank you for responding, I have this posted on three forums and I have a total of 96 views between the 3 and your my first response, so I thank you for that. Thanks Anyway!
