Dave A
Everytime I try to connect to my windows shared network folders the "you need to restart your computer" screen comes up. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/7576-problem-connecting-to-windows-shares/ Share on other sites

Dragon
i think mac can only read fat32. i'm not sure though maybe you could try some software to read ntfs partitions? Technobob
It does not matter what the remote share is formatted in your are using Samba windows file sharing. It sounds like maybe you network driver is corrupt, do you have any problems surfing the web. Or it could be your smbfs.kext file is not loading. salaku
You can read and write to FAT32 shares, but read only from NTFS. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/7576-problem-connecting-to-windows-shares/#findComment-47674 Share on other sites
Technobob
You can read and write to FAT32 shares, but read only from NTFS. Again it does not matter what the networked shared drive is formatted in, you are using networking so the host computer does the writing of the files to the drive not Mac. The only time the formating comes into play is when the drive is connect directly to the computer that is running Mac by IDE, SATA, USB, FireWire etc... but not network. sigxcpu
Actually I access Windows shares (aka SMB/Samba) on a reiserfs formatted partition. Does Mac OS X know about ReiserFS?
