Tesla
Hey all, Im a noob as far as PC building goes, but I'm looking into building a quad core machine to dual boot Vista and Leopard. As a preface to the system, I don't do any intense gaming, but I do game a little from time to time. This machine is primarily built to record music as I am getting a home studio started (which is why dual booting is so beneficial). I have gotten a parts list together and would like to know if there are any changes I should make as far as compatibility is concerned. Thanks a lot in advance! Tesla
Nobody? Is the mobo too new? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/75436-quad-core-build-help/#findComment-536396 Share on other sites
archi386
You'd want a 7300GT or 8800 GTS 340MB video card for better compatibility, and yes, the mobo might work (in wiki someone got an X38 chipset Gigabyte to sort of work) but I'd go with one more tested like Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 or DS4 which will still work with newer 45nm when they come out but not so new that there's no data (badaxe2 and p5w are better tested and may be more compatible but you seem to want newer stuff than that, and I agree) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/75436-quad-core-build-help/#findComment-536406 Share on other sites

Good board, and cheap too (relatively). You can use the search engine in my signature to search for info on osx86 compatibility with that motherboard. obajoba
socal swimmer is right on target. I have a P35C-DS3R with an e6750 and a 7600GT, works with zero issues right on install. The Q6600 will work in that board, P35 chipset and, FWIW, the P35boards contend very closely in performance with the x38 boards.
