tom_m
Howdy, I installed OS X after 3 tries on an external IDE hard drive. The first time it was from an iso with that long name with ppf1 and ppf2. It failed during the middle of installing. Said "retry" which simply restarted the ENTIRE installation over again. I figured bad download or bad burn. I got another version which may be the same or older. It's still JaS AMD/Intel SSE2 and SSE3 just nothing about the patches. I tried installing, it froze on optimizing the hard drive after it copied files. Tried again. Bingo. (Note this time I didn't install any language packs or printer drivers or any of the extra drivers other than the Intel thing of course). Restarted. Went through the welcome and setup. Fine. OS X was running. Some drivers were missing of course, so I went back to the disk and started installing a bunch of the ones I missed that I thought I may need. After being all happy I realized I had no wireless internet so I restarted in windows to go hunt for more drivers to install. After finding a conexant audio driver and a possible driver for the intel wireless card (a popular request here, I forget the number) I went to restart OS X but when it started up it got stuck at the gray apple screen with a "ghostbusters" cross. (circle with slash) I think I've seen this on a real mac before and I'm going to ask my friend what he did..but I'm sure that won't help. Anyone have any ideas? Could it be bad drivers? I guess I'll re-install. This was a test anyway, I'm going to go out and grab a nicer (a real) external hard drive to put this one. Maybe one of those passport drives. Right now it's just on an old IDE drive that I made external with a $13 cable. So that may also be an issue in itself, but let's assume that's not the issue for now. thanks! oh - What computer am I running? HP dv2000 or something like that special edition low end santa rosa processor 1.5ghz is it? 2gb ram. blah blah blah. fairly new computer should still be on display in best buy. tom_m
It was probably a bad driver. I reinstalled and it worked. Furthermore, I was able to grab a driver for my ethernet card too (Yukon) and changed the device id to match mine and it worked. Thankfully. Tried to do the same with an audio driver but the audio still doesn't work. I have a conexant audio card. It is one number off from the device id that other people have and I changed the plist file to match mine no avail. I was hoping it would be close enough and work...like the network card. I am running an HP dv2000. Intel 965 integrated video. So that doesn't change out of 1024x768 which is a big time bummer, it's starting to wear on my eyes - it's slightly stretched. The wireless card of course doesn't work either, but apparently there's some people working on it, which I'm psyched about. I hope there's support for my video soon....or perhaps at least a way to get a proper resolution? Or something not stretched? Does anyone know of any software solutions? Maybe there's something that can change the size through software...I'd be ok with black bars on either side of my screen. I really wish apple didn't try to stretch the screen and just let it go with black like most other computers do... Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
