phvrc2nt
Hi everyone. I succeeded on installing osx86 10.4.6 on my system. wanted a little more... so i downloaded jas 10.4.8. System Specs: Intel Celeron 1.4Ghz @ GM915 chipset GMA900 1.25G ram osx 10.4.6 everything works except pcmcia and sd/mmc reader osx 10.4.8 (full virgin install) Here's my problem. installed the OSx after reboot, my display is garbled. i can hear sounds. can control keyboard. everything running smoothly except the display i attached the external monitor i used but the display is still incomprehensible. any clues on my problem? Thanks! Of course, if ever anyone can help me upgrade my working 10.4.6 to 10.4.10 or 11 would be great!!! (been reading the posts but i'm dumbfounded i guess) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/75019-display-problem-on-an-intel-gma900/ Share on other sites
lilSoldier
Have you tried the "paperclip trick" to make the laptop think there is an external display attached? It worked for me! phvrc2nt
at present, i'm running at 10.4.6 with paperclip trick (everything's working with this install) But... i would like to upgrade to the latest OSX but apparently, I'm having a hard time installing other versions like 10.4.8 which gave me a display problem... i also tried upgrading my os from 10.4.6 > 10.4.11 using the update from macosx download and patched my kernel to use 8.8.1 but with this upgrade im stuck at the start screen (revolving icon) i hope you could help me out. THanks! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/75019-display-problem-on-an-intel-gma900/#findComment-532612 Share on other sites
lilSoldier
Ok then. You're in pretty much the same situation as me then! Im running 10.4.6 with the paperclip trick, but when I update, I get a constantly spinning apple logo, and in Verbose mode, it appears to halt when accessing an InstallAtStartup folder. This happens both when I am using EFI and patching the kernel. I have already started a thread on this, so here is the link: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=75383, so feel free to use it, but it seems nobody wants to help! phvrc2nt
tell me about it... about your problem... i am using office 04 instead of o8. itunes 7.2 to enable much of the latest features quicktime 7.15 i have a problem with dvd player though after all the updates... it plays movies but no video display can be seen, only audio... firefox's way better than safari in terms of surfing... just add foxmarks to save ur bookmarks online and hand gestures to enhance browsing. about the new iso downloads? i've tried 10.4.8 / 10.4.9 and no success on installing... //// with regards to the installation you have tried. what other options have u considered? i'm looking for semthex's kernel 8.8.1 coz i heard that one's the most compatible with our system but to no avail. using the latest 10.4.11 kernel wont just help us (the irc versions) /// if ever you get hold of that kernel, please post ur results and the kernel file so i can try it on my system too... wahwahman89
Hello mate, On your installation disk make sure you specify CUSTOM install and DON'T CHOOSE THE GMA900 DRIVERS otherwise you'll get garbled display. You need to install this from DiaboliK later on, the new installer on his website. Just choose Intel kexts for intel processor I assume and the Power Management suite (that's what I'm running on my Dell Inspiron 1300). lilSoldier
Hmmm.... I don't understand how Strah's worked lol! I installed mine WITH the GMA900 drivers on the disk. Is it just because I am using 10.4.6 or what? I'm a little confused lol! @ phvrc2nt, I think I'll stay with 10.4.6 for the moment, but Im downloading Leopard as we speak, so no need to update! Do you have any idea how the GMA900 works on Leopard? phvrc2nt
strah... updating my installation log. 10.4.8 works off the box but with the following noted - wirelesss non-functional - sd/mmc non functional - pcmcia - not tested - gma 900 not optimized yet it's noticably faster than my 10.4.6 installation i tried installing gma900 but it made my mac boot only in verbose mode. any suggestions? lilsoldier... yeah, i think you're using 10.4.6 disc... you can use the suggestions i noted above for some of the features in itunes to be present in your pc. havent tested leopard. i think i'll stick it with tiger since this is a more mature hackintosh as to speak. leopard will surely give me more headaches than solutions. phvrc2nt
after installing 10.4.8... although speed is definetly faster... things i cant live without (present in 10.4.6 install) ..built in wireless support off the disc ..gma900 works fine without tweaking ..and most of all, functioning sleep mode (never failed me... yet) 10.4.8 is faster than 10.4.6 but as i am scrolling thru other people's post... (perhaps i missed something) couldnt find solutions to my 3 main problems... gma900 is not as elegant since i kept on booting in verbose mode only... wireless network support is scratchy at best... and the sleep function is yet to be solved... ... of course, until someone helps me out? ... volunteers?!? strah...we're you able to make the sleep mode work?
