So...I'm running leopard on a Toshiba Satellite A105 notebook (Core 2 Duo T5500).

Got leo installed fine using brazilmac + PC_EFI. Everything usually works great. A couple of minor problems, but nothing to render it unusable.

Except this.

Five times now I've had to hard restart my computer after getting the gray "You Must Restart Your Computer" screen (the one in four languages). I'm new to macs, so I don't know if Gray Screen of Death is proper terminology, but that's what it is. No specific action seems to trigger it, nor amount of usage. I'll be good for hours one session, then the next I might get the restart screen after ten minutes or so.

Has anybody else experienced these sporadic freak-outs? I don't know what other diagnostic information I can give, since I can't do anything but power down when that screen pops up.

Also, a question for experienced hackintosh users. I was thinking of migrating to Tiger, in the hopes that it would be more stable. Would that be a wise decision? I've been doing this a sum total of about a week, and all my time has been spent on leo forums. How is Tiger on the hackintosh? Is it considerably more stable, or is it riddled with stuff like this? Has anybody had a similar problem?

I can post more specs if anybody thinks it will help...

Thanks...

Hey I am having this same problem but in Tiger, exact same problem, I never had it before and I had used both Tiger and Leopard for about a total of a month. Leopard screwed up somehow had to reinstall in a hurry so I installed Tiger and the problem has been happening ever since. Not sure what the issue is, hopefully we can figure it out.

  • 8 months later...

got the exact same problem... even though this is an old topic (december 2007), I'd like to reactive it again :) Just after about 1 or 2 hours I get the grey screen of death. It can happen when I want to open a new tab window in Firefox, or just when I'm idle and haven't opened any program...

Someone any idea?

Running Zephyroth 10.5.2 Leopard , running 9.4.0 kernel (modbin or something?). 3 SATA drives attached, 1 ATA cdrom

Okay, after my last post and another GSOD I decided to clear 1 of my memory slots. I had 2 x 1gb RAM in my computer, but somewhere I read that removing 1 RAM module could solve these BSODS. Ever since, I haven't had any GSOD , almost 4 hours running now. I'm not saying for 100% this solved my problem, but the fact is OSX didn't crash since I removed 1 module. I'm curious if this will remain this way...

Can anyone give an explanation why removing 1 module could solve this kind of problem? I really can't think of any...
