Cannot run .dmg files! Upgraded kernel from 8.8.1 to 8.9.1 Help!

So here's the deal. I used JaS's 10.4.8 installto get the system up and running. My specs are as follows:

JaS 10.4.8

MSI Neo4-F s939

Athlon x2 3800+

768 pc2100 (all i have for now, will be getting 2gb pc3200)

Geforce 7300gs

Onboard sound

Onboard network

Everything works fine except that I can't run dmg files. This happened when I updated the kernel to 8.9.1. The reason I did that is because it only recognized 1 of the 2 cores on my x2. Once i installed 8.9.1 both cores work but dmg's don't.

I've done the kextunload -c com.apple.AppleDisk...something i can't remember as well as the kextload -b of the same file and that works until I reboot.

The kernel I pulled off of the Kalyway's 10.4.10 dvd which does not install on this machine alone. I've pulled the System.kext off the same dvd installed it, and run the Disk Utility repair permissions. That's supposed to work but it didn't. Should I have not upgraded the kernel the way i did? Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

First off, thank you for not searching, adding another thread amongst a ba-jillion that are asking the same exact questions...

Secondly, to fix this, you need your kernel and system.kext to be same version

I.e. kernel 8.8.1, then system.kext from 10.4.8, kernel 8.9.1, then system.kext from 10.4.9...I think you get the pattern...

and don't forget to chmod / chown system.kext and mach_kernel

Sorry for the repeating post but i thought i tried all the things mentioned considering i pulled the system.kext and the kernel off the same cd. (Kalyway 10.4.10) Now there is that temporary fix using the sudo kextunload kextload commands. I'm wondering if I could write a script which enters those commands automatically and could run when the os boots. I mean it wouldn't be quality solution but would certainly lower the annoyance factor. I'm sure others could use it. I'm just curious if anyone would know the script command to handle the password (though i guess everyone could enter their own passwords but that would reduce security bigtime!). I'm going to give it a shot with just my password.
