EFI success with Asrock Conroe1333-D667

Documenting for posterity (and my fallible memory).

 

Target machine:

 

MB: Asrock Conroe133-D667 R1.0 BIOS 1.0 (manually downgraded BIOS from 1.3)

CPU: E6750 C2D 2.66 w/ 2 GB 8400 RAM

Misc: 1 x 250 GB IDE HD, 1 x SATA DVD DL +/-

Video: XfX GeForce 7300GS 256 MB

 

Procedure:

 

- connect 250GB HD to existing 10.5 Mini via USB/FW

- install pc_efi_7.3 per i_am...me's excellent tutorial here

- install 10.5 from original DVD

- install AppleSMBIODS.kext from efi, and dsmos.kext from insanelymac.com (search for it)

- check owner and perms on these, delete extension.mkext

- install HD in target machine

- boot - OK

- software update - OK

- done

 

Post boot:

 

Install natit_1.0.pkg for the 7300

Install azalia sound

 

Hiccups:

 

- System profiler always crashes

- window placement changes when togging via KVM (no biggie)
