Joseph Duchesne
Hello, I'm concidering buying the parts and building myself an osx86 box but I have some questions first. Here's the hardware combo I'm thinking about: Intel Pentium 4, 3-3.8Ghz or so ~$260, 3.4Ghz Intel D915GAGL motherboard ~$85 at least 1GB of PC3200 DDR SDRAM ~$100 2 SATA drives, lots of GB ~$200 = 2x250GB A DVD drive ~$20 a USB keyboard and mouse ~$10 An ATX case and power supply ~$50 Total: ~$725 Canadian Dollars (prices are more for my interest) All the part prices are from current "buy it now" items on ebay and include shipping. According to this site and others, I think the combo should work, but if anything is missing or just plain stupid, please feel free to tell me. I'm also looking into a graphics card. I'm pretty sure the D915GAGL has an onboard graphics card that will work well for most non-gaming stuff, but I'm looking to game too. After poking around the forum for a while I'm rather confused as to how or if openGL works. I'm looking at the Ati Radeon Atlantis 9600 Pro w/ 256 MB, but this just raises more questions. Will this card work with openGL now? If not then maybe someday? Will it work under windows? Or will I have to get a mac specific card? OpenGL is rather important to me because I program games that use it. It would kind of suck not to be able to run my own software... Any tips, comments or revelations? Thanks, Joseph Duchesne Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/7411-some-questions-about-hardware-and-osx/ Share on other sites
