Hey all!

I was just wondering, which updates through System Update are safe to do when running Leopard 10.5 using the Flat Image method (which I believe is based of BrazilMAC's)? I ran Software Update, and saw a Remote something update, Quicktime and iTunes, plus the update for 10.5.1. I obviously IGNORED the 10.5.1, updated the other 3, and upon reboot I got the blinking cursor of death. So my question stands: which updates are bound to hose my install?

Thanks for anyone who can provide answers! :P

I'm kinda lost, how is EFI supposed to affect Software Update and the normal updates to normal applications? As I said, I didn't install 10.5.1, I only installed QuickTime, iTunes and the Apple Remote update...

Applications updates are safe to install, sometimes Quicktime and iTunes could broke something.

Security Updates and new Versions of Mac OS X are unsafe since could replace some patched files, but with EFI the advantange is that you can use unpatched kexts and even unpatched kernel.

a compatible system should take all updates except the 10.5.x system update

a compatible system w/ EFI should take all updates

If you have manually patched audio/nic to work you may have to occasionally reinstall the patched driver [if the update shows up again afterwards add it to the ignore list]

Yes.. from a software update standpoint you have nothing to fear if you did not have to patch anything else.

On that note though from a HW/driver standpoint it's highly unlikely you have everything working with only the EFI patch (unless you have one of the very few mobos that have everything supported natively)..
