I have patched the iso and burned it to a dvd. I put it in the dvd drive in my computer, select the boot from the dvd drive, and it says f1 to continue, f2 to retry I think. I have also tryed the pre-patched version (wesley's) same thing. I burned it with Nero. Anybody have a clue what the problem is?

Nexusle's right, Nero can screw up bootable ISOs. Also, the disk image is quite sensitive to being modified too much. If you change a lot or move stuff around in the image before burning, you can get problems ranging from non-boot to failed installs to missing components in your OS. Stick to the known working patches and use Alcohol. (Literally, if you want - after a suitable quantity you won't care if the damned thing boots or not... :( )

One way to test if your computer supports non-emulation mode is to try booting with an XP install CD. If that starts to work, you shouldn't have a problem with a properly-created OSx86 DVD. (XP is a non-emulation boot CD).

DVD-R should be fine, +R too. +/-RW is known to cause problems.

Some things you could try - test your DVD in another machine, or persuade a friend to try it. They can cancel out before it gets to do anything with the HDD. Have you run a diagnostic tool against the DVD to see what it thinks it is? If you know someone with a real Mac, see if they can mount the disc - won't test bootability but will show if the filesystem is all correct.

I've had problems with DVDR burned on one machine (Lite-On drive) not being readable on another machine with a BTC drive. Are you burning the DVD on the same machine that's refusing to boot from it? Just ideas.

I'm not an expert in the OSx86 boot sequence so hopefully someone who is can help you out. This message comes up during the boot process -

mach_kernel: BSD root: disk0s5, major 14, minor 5

and before the devfs on /dev, jettisoning of kernel linker messages. So I think whatever process follows the message you see is the one causing a hang. At this stage the kernel is testing hardware so I'm guessing that your DVD burn is fine but you have a hardware issue with your PC. Sorry but I'm a bit rusty here, might be patch problems or you may need to boot a different kernel to get your machine up.

Anyone else offer advice at this point? Tks

Thanks Metrogirl...

Beyond this line theres just the cursor.

Nothing more is displayed.

I'm using Jas patch Ver 4.2b, with all the MD5 sum's cheked.

And you can see the config im my asignature.

It's suposed to run, because, i have all the required thing(except for PAE) and i can run 10.4.1.

I tried start another topics, but people seems to refuse to help me, although i'm aways helping...

But thanks again for your help!

I just made some tests and can confirm that after the major/minor numbers the system pokes at some of the hardware and then creates the RAMdisks used for install. It can take a while to get through the process up to this point. Also I tried a known defective DVD and got a hang on attempting to read disk1s5 a bit later in the process (as I expected 'cos it has a big scratch in it) so it might be your DVD after all. As I said earlier, OSx86 can be very fussy about the DVD.

Hummmm.

I just burned this DVD today.

It's a +R one, and has no scratches.

But, playing with Nero a little, i used a utility that shows the patrons that the drive recognizes.

The +R box, is not checked.

But i can, reed it...

can this be causing the problem??

or is better to buy a new -r media(that has compatibility) and burn with alcohol ??

Really Thanks.

I wish I could suggest something else but I'm not really the right person to help you on this.

If it's any consolation I had problems with two DVDs before I got one which worked all the way through the install, and they were all burned exactly the same way, from the same image, the same hardware (Mac G5/Diskutil) and verified OK at burn time. I never worked out why one was fine and the other two crashed. I guessed I might have dodgy media, but I've had no problems with other DVDs from the same stack used for video purposes.

Metrogirl, I really want to thank you for the help. I think you were the person that most helped me in this forum.

I'll try to bur in a DVD ram and see if i can get further. DVD-RAM is supported by my combo, and ATM has 10.4.1 in it. I installed 10.4.1 in my system, with him.

I'll give it a shot, hope you are right.

Again, Really Thanks for the tips!
