I followed the guide here:

Everything has gone perfectly, except when I boot with the OSX, I get the gray apple screen with the little spinny thing and it's been sitting here for about 5 hours. The guide on that site says it may take a while, but 5 hours seems excessive.

The dvd drive sounds like it is still spinning and I think I feel the vibration of the hard drive writing (and the hard drive light is solid green like it's writing).

What is the average install time once you boot with the osx dvd?

Similar issue here. Been sitting there for about 30-45 minutes, no noticeably loud DVD or HD sounds. I am at the gray apple screen, but with NO SPINNY THING.

Is this bad?

Any ideas?

I am going to bed soon and hope its not at the same screen in the morning.. but I am doubtful.

OK.

Removing PCMCIA card and ethernet cable got me past (also loaded with -v)

HOWEVER

Now when I go to chose a destination drive, none is available...

OK.. sorry for being obnoxious.

I went into disk utility from that point and formatted the disk. It then was visible and I selected. I am installing now.

So far, so good.

Hopefully you have the same problem/solution as me.

Boot with -v option and provide more information. Also provide system specs.

I tried two installs, one with direct DVD install, it took about 30 mins for the install welcome screen to show, the whole install take about 60 mins. one with VMware install with DVD ISO mounted with Daemon, took only 1 min for the first screen to come up and total install time is about 15 mins, what a difference!!

of course, VMware is only used for install, after that enable the dual-boot so that your machine boot to osx directly.

i had the same problem with the slow boot. i burned it on dvd-r and i found out that dvd+r worked better. it only takes a minute or two now, instead of 30 mins to get to install.

i'm now on the part where it doesn't find my partition. but i'm scared to format it in disk utility, due to my windows partition is on the same drive |:
