ati x300 problem

ive recently installed jas 10.4.8 and the 10.4.9 update. everything works fine except my video. i have an ati x300 128mb video card. i hav no mouse tearing or anything but id like to have quartz extreme enabled. it also says that there are no kexts loaded. anyone know how to fix this? ive tries installing callisto but when i reboot i see the apple logo then it goes to a black screen and thats it. any help would be appreciated and thanx in advance.
