Hello everyone

I have downloaded an image that contains:

macosx_10.4.3_8f1111_for_dtk_userdvd.iso - 4.31 GB

macosx_10.4.3_8f1111_for_dtk_userdvd.patched.md5 - 4 KB

I can successfully mount the image on my PowerMac, however, when I go to copy it to my 200GB external Firewire drive so that I can burn it to a dvd on my PC, it can't copy it and toward the end it says "Error code 1309". It is over 4 GB, so is that why it is causing a problem copying it to my FAT 32 firewire drive?

How else can I copy it to a dvd if I can't even get it to my PC? (My PowerMac has only a DVD/CD ROM, and no burner)

I have another hard drive in my PowerMac that I formatted to FAT32 and tried copying it to that drive, but it still caused the error. Will I have to format the 10 gig (my spare hard drive in the PoweMac that I tried copying it to) as a Mac OS partition, then copy it to that, then put that in my PC? Or will it not recognize it then?

What filesystem does the PC hard drive have to be when you install it?

Thanks for any help.

I guess I should give some specs. I downloaded the image on my PowerMac G4 400 MHz, 768 MB RAM. On my PowerMac, I have OS X 10.4.4 installed. It has an 80 GB ATA 133 hard drive and a 10 gig.

For an optical drive, it has only a DVD/CD ROM.

My Dell has a Pentium 4 @ 1.6 GHz, 512 MB DDR SDRAM, and a 200 GB ATA 133 hard drive. It has a dual-format single layer DVD/CD R/RW Memorex burner.

My Firewire hard drive is 200GB, formatted to FAT32.

...just in case this helps.

FAT32 doesn't normally support files larger than 4GB. A simple solution is to compress the file in .zip format. If you right-click the file, and choose "Create Archive of ..." That should shrink the file to under 3GB (probably). I have the .dmg version of the same file and mine is only 2.81GB (since .dmgs are compressed) so zipping the file should have the same effect.

I guess I can try that. I just figured since it would be a FAT32 drive I'd be copying it to, that it would do the same thing, but maybe not. I'll give it a try.

It won't work if the Dell is also formated FAT32

You can convert a FAT32 drive to NTSF without reinstalling, if your running XP on the Dell.

It is probably easier to convert or reformat the external Firewire to NTSF. The G4 should be able to write to that and then the Dell should then be able to read from that and write to DVDR.

Have you forgotten that Mac's NTFS support is read only

He could format the external drive HFS+ and use MacDrive or something similar.

Ok, thanks for your help everyone. I'm going to zip it and then set up my network to xfer it. Only thing is, networking between XP and Windows isn't exactly seamless. I've done it before, but that was with luck. I am not a big network expert.

I'll keep ya updated on my progress.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your help! I burned the image successfully to a dvd last night over the network. I put the dvd in, it boots up and I get the happy gray Apple screen!!!

But when I get to the destination drive selection screen, no drives show up. What do I do from here?

Thanks
