iPhone newbie guide

Hi all.

 

First of all - i'm kinda newbie and lame in whole iPhone case. I know OS X system. Know the Unix commands and similiar stuff.

 

But.

 

But i have no idea - what's inside and how it works - iPhone of course.

 

So I have couple of questions:

 

1) There is an Apple operating system running on the phone (some portable version) - but i don't know what kind of system, what version and what apps from Tiger for example can be run. (if it's possible)

 

2) Installing 3-rd party applications - how it works?

 

3) Unlocking the device - how it works?

 

4) I bought the device with 1.1.1 (3A109a) firmware installed - modem firmware: 04.01.13_G. So currently any newer firmware from Apple is avaible...? I mean can i upgrade my device with some fresh software...?

 

5) My phone is unlocked ("The Store" installed strange application called Installer v3.0b8 and unlock phone for me) - when I upgrade with a new firmware via iTunes - does the simlock blockade will back...?

 

6) In mentioned Installer application there is a possibility of adding new software to my phone. But. 90% of those installable applications are pretty crappy and buggy for me. They hang the device - do some crashes and works awful. Is there any other alternative source for 3-rd party applications...?

 

7) Somebody know where are working repositories for Installer...?
