Danyel
Hi jainmac: With Tiger (10.4), I am able to READ files on my Vista or XP Partition (NTFS), but I am not able to WRITE unless they are FAT32 Partitions. I have an External Hard Drive with FAT32 Partition for backing up files. I'm not sure if this has changed with Leopard (10.5). Can anyone comment? --danyel
Killroy
This is the same for both Tiger and Leopard. The Vista partition will be formatted as NTFS and Mac OS X is HFS+. As far as I know, you cannot install Vista on a FAT32 partition. Mac OS X can read, but not wirte NTFS. So you will be able to copy files from the Vista partition, you just cannot copy files to the partition. You can install third-party software like MacFUSE and NTFS-3G that will allow you to read and write NTFS partitions in OS X; the speeds are relatively slow. Vista will not be able to read or write your OS X HFS+ partition without installing MacDrive. Both OS X and Windows are able to read and write to FAT32 without installing third-party software.
