migse
Hello alltogether As I'm new in this forum, this is my very first post. I'm starting with quite a funny story about my OSx86-PC that happened yesterday. Actually, everything startet two days ago, when I ordered some new hardware to upgrade my PC (the idea was to get some more performance out of my Windows-Games...). The following pieces were delivered yesterday: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, 2x1 GB DDRII-800-RAM and the Asrock AM2NF3-VSTA-Mainboard. I managed the hardware-upgrade without any problems, so that I could start up my machine half an hour later with my WinMediaCenter-HD (I'm using mobile-racks for my varous OS-HD's). Everything went right until to the point when Windows startet to boot. Then, in the middle of the boot-process, the machine suddenly rebootet (I think it's some drivers...!). I tried again and again (also in save mode), but never managed to boot into Windows completely. I also tried with my Vista-HD, also with no success (same problem). Well, to be honest, I did not expect that Windows would accept a change of the MB without problems (it wasn't the first time I did this), but it's the first time that Win failed to boot completely, even in save mode! But now, here comes the hammer: After many frustrating trys to boot Windows on my partly-new machine, I also tried my OSx86-HD (10.4.8). Due to the fact that this OS originally wasn't designed to run on AMD-Systems (and non-apple-pc's in common) I didn't really expect that it would boot (on my old configuration, everything except the sound worked pretty well...). But Tiger booted as if there had never been another configuration like my new one. Even the sound works now and the system-performance is rocket-like . Since I'm using Mac-OS (next to my PC I have a MacBook), i'm getting more and more disappointed by Windows (the worst of all is Vista). But this story, for me, tops it all... I wish you all a nice day and weekend! migse PS: please forgive me if my English sometimes sounds a bit strange, I'm swiss-german-speaking Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/70535-funny-storybut-i-stopped-wondering/ Share on other sites

I suppose your hardware might be taking advantage of some refinements in the OS that relate to specific hardware attributes but so far on this machine (admittedly getting long in the tooth), XP runs somewhat snappier than OS X. Naturally, I'm hoping to fix that so they at least operate as quickly as each other, but I think that'll take some weeks yet if at all. BTW, your English is great. Wish my Swiss-German was as good. Auf weidersehn. Or perhaps gutten nacht? migse
Yeah, I think I might just have been lucky in buying a MB by coincidence that works so well... BTW, thanks for your compliments. To improve your swiss-german-skills, try this one ;-) www.eldrid.ch/swgerman.htm Maybe in future, I'm gonna find some posts of you in swiss-german *g* Have a nice day! I for myself just had lunch...
