hey y'all!

it's been a while since i last posted here...

i`m buying a new pc, (a cheap one i might add) only for osx pourposes... and i'm stuck in doubt of which mobo i should buy... looking all over the foruns i realised that intel945 chipset is the best choice... and i found 2 mobos really cheap, with the same chipset...

Gigabyte GA-945GZM-S2 and ECS 945GZT-M

both of them have intel945 and intel ICH7 and gma950 IGP... searched the wiki and found both of them to be compatible... it's just that i'd like some toughts about it... could you please help me decide? =P

thanks in advantage!

I will pipe in a bit here.....

The ECS board is AWESOME! The ONLY negatives are as follows:

Very little overclocking potential....my 2.2 e4500 only gets to 2.59.....measly compared to a LOT of motherboards.

My biggest gripe though is the sound support (or lack thereof)....NO AUDIO IN! A HUGE problem for me because the wiki says that the HD audio package (which includes audio in) does not work on this board!

Lastly....the pci-e slot is ONLY 4x.....roughly the same as AGP 8x.....wimpy compared to most motherboards.

I am not sure about the other board you mentioned.....but other than the above mentioned gripes...this is a great board.

Leopard was an easy installation. I have not tried the SATA. Lastly I am using an ATI x1950xt with 512MB of RAM....and it all works perfect!

Hope that is some help!

hey man thank u very much! i was pending to the ECS side already... auheuhhuauhse

anyway... hehe it's intended to be a really cheap pc... so there's no need for overclocking and stuff like that... just web and a little photoshop. :P

and let me ask you oone more thing: does the onboard video works with QE/CI?

that's really what i'm worried about =/

i'll wait your answer. and thank u once more!!! it was really helpfull! ;D

see ya!

Try the GIGABYTE GA-945GCMX-S2 instead. It's PCIE x16 slot actually runs at 16x. I believe the two boards you mentioned only run at 4x. All devices work with default drivers in Leopard except audio and that is easily remedied by installing the ALC888 drivers. $52.99 at newegg. See here for more:

Onboard video works like a champ. I have not tried it in Leopard because of having this Radeon....but it worked PERFECT in 10.4.8 thru 10.4.10. I would be SHOCKED if it did not work perfectly in leopard. Sadly I cannot verify Leopard for you. Well.....I could....but I am a little lazy. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

hey man!!!! thank u very much! i was really worried about the video not working, but now i've decided already! aheuhauhshuehu i already bought it in fact! this morning, it will be here on saturday (brazil deliveries sucks ^^ ahuhehuahus)

THANK U ONCE MORE!! I APRECIATTE VERY MUCH!! ;D

see ya!
