vfilby
Like so many I was clamoring for intel binaries of the new iPhoto and some of the other iLife apps. So I got it and installed it. After the install everything worked fine including audio, the new iTunes worked perfectly. When I tried garage band it said I needed the newest QT so I downloaded it from apple's site and installed it. Rebooted and no more sound at all. I am leaning towards blaming QT but I can't be entirely sure as I didn't reboot after installing iLife. I have a SoundMax AC97 onboard that worked out of the box for all the leaked version of OS X that I tried. Anyone have thoughts on how I might reclaim my audio? useful details: OS build 8f1111f (says g in the profiler) P4 2.8 with SSE2 only, running emulation kernel 4.2b Asus p4p800 moterboard Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6944-ilife-06-or-qt-704-killed-my-audio/ Share on other sites
davesacre
Ah, so you opened Garageband. I too lost my audio, but it was after opening Garageband. Here's the strange thing: it changed something so the line-in and line-out are reversed. Try pluging your speakers into the line-in (the blue jack on most PCs.) Hope this works for you. Edit: I'm also using a P4P800 and same OSX build with patch. Are are officially the man ;-) This works but I think the volume is dimished, but not to the point were it is just the output signal leaking into the input channel. Other than having an external amp cranked the only problem is that the front panel audio jack doesn't pick this up. I hope that a solution can be found but this will work as an interim solution. vfilby
I took a look at all the files changed in the last day and among the files were these to: /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAC97Audio.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAC97AudioIntelICH.kext/Contents /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAC97Audio.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAC97CodecAD198x.kext/Contents There modification dates were Jan16 9:52 and 9:53 which is about when I first ran the program. I tried a copy of the AppleAC97Audio.kext from an older install of the original vmware image but that resulted in no audio from either port. If I can get my hands on a 8f1111 copy of the kext I'll get that a whirl. Ruadrim
I have -exactly- the same problem. I installed iLife and the sound just died. I have the same motherboard too... Switching the cables works, but isn't really a solution. Can we fiddle with the kextfiles to return the config to before? Or maybe digg around in the iLife settings? My macversion is Mac OS X 10.4.4 (8G1165) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6944-ilife-06-or-qt-704-killed-my-audio/#findComment-111983 Share on other sites
