My hardware is not supported by OSx86 so I want to go back to windows.

I have formated my drive as ms-dos format and set the partition as master book record in system utilities by booting with OSx86 Tiger DVD.

Now I am trying to install windows. Booting with WIN XP SP2 cd gets stuck at this screen: "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer."

"Technical information: *** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF7A21524,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)

Please help.

A 0x7B error message means that Windows XP (be it the Setup or the actual OS) cannot find (or read from) the device it is trying to boot from. Commonly, it's caused by not having the correct device driver installed.

It will help if you mention the specs of your computer (specifically, the chipset, hard drive interface type, etc.). If you have a newer computer, you probably have a SATA hard drive, and the hard drive controller is probably set up in AHCI mode. If possible, change the mode in the BIOS to ATA (or Legacy Mode or Compatibility Mode), complete the setup, install all of the drivers for your system, and if you want, restore the setting back to AHCI (or Native Mode).

I am assuming that you are booting from a Windows XP CD (not an OEM-supplied Recovery Disc). If so, you will need to get the driver disk for your hard drive controller, sometimes referred to as the F6 Driver Disk, because you need to press the F6 Key during Windows Setup to install the driver. If you are using an OEM-suppled Recovery Disc, you should contact them about it.

Without more information about your specific computer, there's not much we can do.

Are you trying to format this drive using OSX? You might have better luck by using DOS Fdisk to erase all Non-DOS partitions from the drive and then re-partition the drive from the DOS disk or from the Windows disk.

BJMoose, with windows XP disk I can't get the point where I can format the drive, so I used the OSx86 disk.

anarchy_1024, you are right about the drivers for my hardware not being present in the windows XP disk. I don't have the driver disk for my hardware. So, I tried installing Vista and it worked. I guess Vista disk comes with the drivers for my hardware.

When I have time, I'll get the driver disk for my hardware and will try installing XP. Until then I'll live with Vista.

Thanks for all the help guys.
