Ok I having been working on this for a couple of days. I currently have OSX running on a 320gb sata HD and also a 200gb IDE HD with partiton size at 128gb. I want to move this to a 80gb HD. I have tried the usual (Acronis, etc) and they all seem to see the partiton as all being used so no luck trying to get that on a 80gb. I tried using CCC and all I got was a blinking cursor on the 80gb. Today I booted up into the IDE and used disk utility to make an image of the SATA. I boot into the sata drive and try to use disk utility to restore onto the 80gb and it gives me this error "An error (16) occurred while copying. (Resource busy)". Please help.

Most images, even though smaller than the size of the partition, also carry the partition size info within them. Therefore, when trying to restore an image of a larger drive to a smaller drive, you'll get all kinds of errors. What you might want to do is just install OSX on your 80gb drive and then use the migration assistant tool to move everything else over.

edit: I should add that I've read that iPartition can reduce the size of an HFS+ partitions without hurting your data. Their website says it should work (don't know about Hacks). That way, you could resize your partition to 80gb, make a new image, and then restore that image to your 80gb drive.
