sulfo
Hi all, i just got a new HDD from samsung with 250 gb. however win only recognizes 137 gb. i read about this before so i tried the usual fixes, ie: i'm running xp sp2; my bios is updated to newest release (it does recognize 250gb); i installed newest win hdd drivers; added DWORD "EnableBigLba" (Value=1) to registry; i even installed a fresh system and pre formatted the drive under linux (knoppix live cd, it does also regognize the whole hdd); still, win xp just won't see the missing 100+ gb? does somebody have another idea how i might be able to solve this? greetz Tom Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6871-a-little-win-help/ Share on other sites
xtraa
Hmm, I don't know your system specs, but I would simply make two partitions to use the full capacity. If you can't, i would guess that your bios does not support it. About WinXP, you need to have SP2 installed. sulfo
specs: see sig bios can handle it: it detects it as smsung 250 gb... i had sp2 installed it just didn't work. i have it fixed now, however i still don't know what the problem was... it worked after killing of the whole drive with QTPartEd, and writing a new partition table. suddenly win xp setup recognized the disk at full capacity. i tried that two partition thing before but i just couldn't access the missing 130GB... oh well, the wonders of win Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6871-a-little-win-help/#findComment-50327 Share on other sites
