keckmatd
I was under the impression that 10.4.10 just didn't work well with vmware, and that was the reason it wouldn't see my drives. Hmmm, interesting that perhaps we can hack it to see our SATA drives and maybe get past the format of the disk to the point we can then boot back into the install normal and install from there? Anyone more knowledgeable got some advice? ~Keck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/68067-sata-issue-macnub-10410/page/2/#findComment-485408 Share on other sites
flibblesan
Ok, I've got it running sort of. I'm installing to an IDE drive partitioned with two partitions, first one of 120Gb for OSX, the rest unformatted. Installed only the nforce kernel, verbose etc. Installed the SATA support as well. Rebooted, kernel panic relating to video. So I re-installed again, making sure I installed the Nvidia 8800GTS drivers. Rebooted, found the video card and got a kernel panic. I read about some kind of swap trick so I rebooted again, and as it loaded the IDE driver I unplugged the monitor and waited for the disk light to go out. Plugged it back in, and I was at the keyboard detection screen. I did the initial setup, got to desktop and froze. Rebooted with monitor plugged in and I get to desktop, but then I get spinning beachball and finder not responding. Trying to restart finder causes everything minus the mouse pointer to freeze. So I'm getting there. update: Used TransMac to add the AppleVIAATA.kext to the mac disk. Desktop loads up, but freezes after about 5 seconds. keckmatd
Hmmm, I do fear we will have to resort to an IDE drive for installing, for now. It seems the support for everything else is going well, at the moment. If we install to an IDE and actually get it up and installed, I wonder if we can use the clone install trick and transfer to our SATA drives. From there essentially have full support. I'm going to try the new drivers pointed out in this thread tonight with the CD and see where I can get. ~Keck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/68067-sata-issue-macnub-10410/page/2/#findComment-485891 Share on other sites
keckmatd
Update here. I've tried the newest drivers provided in this thread and still to no avail. So, I guess we are pooched for now? I'll have to PM Envying and see how he was finally able to get at least a semi-working install on that board. Asus P5N-E sli, has been awesome to me other than this, haha. Thanks for trying to help! ~Keck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/68067-sata-issue-macnub-10410/page/2/#findComment-487297 Share on other sites

MaxXx9
what if you used darwin to format disks would osx boot? Does not matter, for me and the other having this problem, even the Disk Utiliy program on the install disk cannot do anything to the SATA HD's. I have a nForce 650i mobo, but the problem you are having is 100% identicle to mine. keckmatd
Yes, I have this fear we'll be waiting for another release. I think there is just something about our setup that will take special attention to get working. Oh well for now, I guess, Keck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/68067-sata-issue-macnub-10410/page/2/#findComment-492388 Share on other sites
flibblesan
Small update. I've got everything working. Mac.nub with nforce kernel. Basically, I have to boot with the switch cpus=1 even on my core2duo. If I leave it, I get kernel panics or freezes in the desktop. Also boots a lot quicker with the cpus=1 switch. I'm still running from my IDE drive, but SATA is detected and seems to work ok but SATA is in PIO mode.
