viriiman
Hello all, I hope you can help. I'm trying to install 10.4.3 on my Toshiba Satellite M55-S135 laptop. I had sucessfully installed OS 10.4.1 (the DVD is labeled "OSX Generic Install X86") on this laptop with installation problems at all. I recently downloaded macosx_10.4.3_8f1111_for_dtk_userdvd.dmg, followed the guides here, and patched it with the JaS 1111a Generic Patch v4.2b PPF. The disc boots up successfully, but I'm greeted with the blueish/greenish background that is behind the installer. The installer has only come up ONCE when I booted off the cd with the "-x" flag. When the install was done, the computer wouldn't boot into OS 10.4.3, it was on the same "green/blue" screen. If I boot the laptop up in -v mode, everything is that white colored text (remember reading in another post where the text was yellow). I have no idea as to what I could be doing wrong. I've even put the 10.4.1 disk in, erased the OSX partition, and tried to reinstall without any luck. Please note, I am dual booting, HOWEVER I am NOT using *nix or the chain=(whatever) method. I was using the boot loader that's built into the Mac OS. Hope this helps, and hope I can get my Hackentosh back up and running soon. Thanks Viriiman Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6788-cant-install-8f1111-after-patching/ Share on other sites

ddkore
I had exactly the same problem on my HP laptop. Turns out OSX wanted to use the external display as the primary. Plug in another monitor, and you might see what you're looking for on the other screen. keeshond
Thanx ddkore. I had the same problem. Beginning to install now. See what happens if I unplug it after the install. rintintin
keeshond, do let us know how things went. I have run into the exact same issue with my Compaq V2000. 10.4.1 installs great, but 10.4.3 with the JaS patches brings up only bluescreen. Are you able to get the lcd on your laptop working with a resolution better than 1024x768? I previously tried hacking the kext's, but would only ever get the same bluescreen unless I plugged in an external monitor. if you can get the resolution working properly, i'll be elated! if I don't hear back, i'll mess with it tonight when I get home and see if anything works. rintintin
I did the secondary display thing, and it installed no problem. But I have a problem in that I have to attach the secondary display in order to see more than just the blue screen. How do I solve this? acerfun
I did the secondary display thing, and it installed no problem. But I have a problem in that I have to attach the secondary display in order to see more than just the blue screen. How do I solve this? Finally installed to a different laptop with secondary screen.. There is a dongle for this bug dongle solution I hope the solution is coming soon... or i go back to 10.4.1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6788-cant-install-8f1111-after-patching/#findComment-45395 Share on other sites
rintintin
I'm trying the dongle solution, but I haven't yet gotten it to work properly. I also may be returning to 10.4.1, but everything is S-T-R-E-T-C-H-E-D O-U-T too much. When I view photos, everyone looks like they've put on 50 lbs. acerfun
Once i booted with the 10.4.1 dvd and i choosed the "choose boot disk - hdd (where is the 10.4.3or4)" or similar option and when booted the 10.4.3 worked properly on the lcd screen without any dongle (what i have no), i've made some bechmarks etc.. it was ok until the next restart.. I've tried the all possibilities of "Graphics Mode" bla bla but nothing worked out. So, i think there i only a little bug in the patch what i hope somebody will correct it soon. rintintin
Okay. I have finally found a consistent, but roundabout, way to make this work. I tried the VGA dongle, but couldn't get it to work consistently. Sometimes I would to the Fn+External Monitor (F4 for me) two times, sometimes 4 times, sometimes 5 times. And then sometimes when I did any or all of these nothing worked. Very annoying to have to reboot 5-6 times and maybe have it work one of those times. So, I tried the S-Video dongle as found here: http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=889&st=180. I'd looked at this before and tried to find the parts, but Radio Shack didn't have a clue about a S-Video housing. I also checked at Fry's (I'm in SoCal), but no luck. Not surprising since Fry's customer service sucks. Because I had a couple of extra resistors lying about after my VGA dongle construction, I tried just plugging them straight into the S-Video jack (pin 1 to 3 and 2 to 4). Miracle of miracles... it worked! Well, almost. It gave me a secondary screen, but this was progress! Then I think I remember reading somewhere (I can't remember where. I've spent way too much time on this...) that if you put your laptop into sleep mode with an external monitor (or what the computer thinks is an external monitor), it will move everything to your laptop (i.e. secondary) screen. Again, another miracle, it actually worked. Then I found an old S-Video cable that I haven't used in ages and chopped off the end bits, hoping to remove the old wires and jam in the resistors as shown in the diagram. This didn't quite go as planned, but once I managed to pry off the old connections and all the insulation, I was able to solder the resistors to the old contacts and then enclose them back in the plastic housing. I cut the housing carefully so that I would be able to reseal it. The Hackentosh/Mactel gods be praised, my Compaq Mac (V2000) is in business. Goodbye 10.4.1! Sorry. Didn't summarize my method. 1. Plug in S-Video dongle with computer off. 2. Turn on computer. 3. Acronis bootloader loads choice between OSX 10.4.1 / XP / OSX 10.4.3. 4. Select OSX 10.4.3. 5. Wait for it to boot into OSX, at which point it gives you a secondary screen. 6. Hit sleep mode (Fn+F5 for me, or the screen sleep button, top left). 7. Unplug dongle. 8. Turn computer back on. 9. Wait for it...wait for it...Voila! OSX in all its 1280x768 widescreen glory! acerfun
Hi! Thanx the idea ! Ive found a 1meter long S-Video - S-Video cable and i didnt want to cut and solder etc... so I only connected it simply and it booted to osx, buuuut only twice, so i have to find resistors! My computer isn't going to sleep mode while booting. rintintin
I only put it into sleep mode once it boots into OSX, not before, i.e. not while the apple logo is showing and the little wheel thing is spinning. Sleep mode doesn't work before you boot into OSX. anarion
(Sorry, but I think I should also post this in here) I got a Dell Latitude 120L three weeks ago. When I first tried to install Mac OS X, it was crashing at that blue screen too, but after some 4 or 5 resets it just works and boot without a problem. That's very odd, though. ò.ó Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6788-cant-install-8f1111-after-patching/#findComment-134218 Share on other sites
