xlined
Hi, I'm running 10.4.1 on my system. running perfect with wireless, sound etc. some how it take longer to start then a previous instalation (with ati card). I have nvidia geforce fx 5600 now and it start a bit slower. Does this have anything to do with vcard? how can I make the kernel use hyperthreading? stu1
If you install the developer tools for 10.4.1 (Xcode 2.1) an optional install is CHUD. Install this and you'll have a pref pane for switching HT on and off (if it's available). Alternatively if you just want to see if it's on there's a monitor utility in Applications/Utilities. (Note that if you are booting with the command line arg of x86pc you won't get hyperthreading) Edited January 13, 2006 by stu1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6778-pentium-4-hyper-threading/#findComment-42089 Share on other sites

System apparently seeing HyperThreading as though it is two processors. MenuMeters 1.2.2 (OSX86 version) also shows activity for each thread. korosu
on this note, i noticed that my sound and overall system performance was much better after disabling hyperthreading. before, my AC97 audio skipped and crackled constantly. once i turned off hyperthreading, the sound was perfect. REVENGE
CHUD is an optional part of the XCode install package, i believe, so you just need to install CHUD during XCode installation. Then, use the CHUD pref panel to switch off HT. Alternatively, if HT is simply recognized like dual core emulation, you can try using the following boot parameters along with any you already have enabled: "idlehalt=0" "cpus=1" Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/6778-pentium-4-hyper-threading/#findComment-51034 Share on other sites
Cortilein
Thanks, REVENGE! Your hint allows me to boot straight into 10.4.5 now without disabling HT in BIOS. My XBench total score dropped by roughly 3 points (only). Rock'n'Roll!
