Make a USB Port Read Only?

Is it possible to make a USB port permanently read-only on a Mac? I am aware you can do this on windows by adding a registry key in Windows XP with SP2 so that all USB ports become read-only.

 

Is there any way of doing this on a Mac machine?

i don't think this is possible. a device can be read-only, not the port. for accessing a device, even read-only, you need to write data and commands specific to the device.

 

basically you can have a software that will block file write operation to the mass storage device, but this has nothing to do with the usb port.

Thanks for your response. Are you aware of any software that will prevent write commands to attached USB devices?

Hi Wool:

 

If you are using dual-boot configuration (with Windows) or sharing the drive with Windows PC, then you can format with NTFS Partition that Mac OS X can read but not write to.
