OSx86 10.4.3 Build 8F1111

I bought ilife 06 for my ibook and G4, down at the local applestore, Also quicktime did upgrade to 7.0.4 :) 6.5 gigs is the size of the installer

Since i have an sli motherboard would it be possible to install an ati card in the other slot and just use that card? From what i have read only 2 more months till the pro apps are avilable for it

Just installed ilife 06 on my abit an8 sli board with 3700+ amd and 1 nvidia 7800gt and it worked perfectly. It updated quicktime perfectly also

Now i just need to get my nvidia card to support core image and quartz extreme.

Please further explain working perfectly :D

I have iLife 06 Up and Running on the following specs... ( Far from perfectly )

AMD Athlon S754 3200+ SSE2 Maxxuss 4.2b Kernel

2GB Corsair XMS 2-3-2-5

Nvidia Geforce 6800 Ultra AGP

All latest avaliable updates

Here is the lowdown...

iPhoto 06 - Works great , no issues as of yet

iDVD 06 - Works great , a tad slow due to no native video drivers , however once burning a DVD and it begins to encode the first portion of the DVD as soon as the preview window is displayed the program "Quits Unexpectedly" Happens in the same spot every time.

iMovie 06 - I am able to import a video , but after that nothing , The program does not quit , but I am unable to modify the movie , apply themes or pretty much do any thig else with the program at this point.

iWeb 06 - Program Loads and thats it , I can move the active window , but cant minimise to the dock or manipulate any of the buttons or features in the program.

Anyone else running this please post your results , I am curious as if this is an issue only with SSE2 based machines.

lol..well so much for running perfectly

In any event..all i really care about is iPhoto 06 and iWeb.

If iWeb is busted then that blows...but what are ya gonna do? Just gotta save up for that MacBook baby :-D

Copied and pasted from my thread over at win2osx

If you dont have a video card that has native support in OS X in its current state , you can pretty much forget about running iDVD , iMovie HD and iWeb. The only two apps that should work for you are iPhoto and GarageBand 3.

How do I know this for certain you may ask? Well the urge to get all of this working forced me to drive 50+ miles to the nearest CompUSSR. I picked up an overclocked out of the box NorwoodMicro ATI Radeon 9550 256MB AGP 4/8X for testing , upon further inspection it seems that it is a built by ATI card , overclocked out of the box and it was $10 cheaper than the retail ATI card.

Upon installing the card , I noticed that everything wasnt quite as smooth as it was with my 6800 Ultra. Upon further inspection I noticed that the ATIRadeon9700.kext was not loaded. With some help from the Wiki and some random hacking of device id's the card was fully detected and CoreImage and QuartzExtreme were both enabled! A quick note I would like to add as well is that if you are running the latest Hacked CoreGraphics fromework from Maxxuss and trying to upgrade to an ATI card , restore the original file first! After this I hurried to try my iLife apps , the results are as follows.

iWeb - Initial impressions are that its working perfectlty , I am actually able to use the program with the new video card.

iMovie - Same as iWeb , everything appears to be working as it is supposed to.

iPhoto - Same as before only slideshows are alot smoother and the export to iWeb actually works.

iDVD - The app that I want to use the most , still is not perfect. Allthough it runs smoother than before and actually begins to encode a track it still ends up crashing soon there afterwards. If more people have access to the new iDVD please post your results!

Garageband 3 - Snappier , but still working great.

Not a bad experience and the native hardware support is great. The dock is slower and windows resises are a tad slower with the ATI card , but then again minimizing and maximizing windows , expose and dashboard are as smooth as silk not and the added application compatibility is a definate plus as well. I will do my best to keep everyone updated on my iDVD findings in the not so distant future. Good Luck!
