Alright so I'm trying to get wireless to work on my Dell Inspiron 5100. To do so, I need to get the PCMCIA bus to work.I've attempted installs with a number of different DVDs, but the one that works best is the JaS 10.4.6 Everything runs right out of the box. Unfortuneatly, it is 10.4.6 and stuff like iLife doesn't work. So after lots of fun downloading and installing I managed to get Uphuck 10.4.9 (1.4i r2) to work. I had to replace the ACPI and APIC kexts from my 10.4.6 installation (on a different partition) to get it to boot up, and then the IONetworkFamily kext to enable ethernet. In 10.4.6, as long as i install the intel 915 drivers, PCMCIA and my wireless network card (linksys WPC54GS) work wonderfully. In 10.4.9, PCMCIA fails to start and obviously my wireless doesn't work. I've tried replacing the IOPCCardFamily.kext with the one from 10.4.6, but it doesn't work. I also heard that Firewire conflicts with PCCard, but I removed and also replaced the firewire kexts with the ones from 10.4.6 and nothing works. At the moment i'm reinstalling 10.4.9 again but as soon as its done i'll post the verbose PCCard failure line.Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated.Aside from PCMCIA, this is a success story and I'll gladly post it there, but i really wanna get wireless working first.Okay some other things.my pcmcia bus is a Texas instuments xx10the inspiron 5100 runs a 2.8ghz P4 (sse2)Radeon 7500 videoI dunno what else you'd like to know but ask away
