Jake Verona
Hello, I've managed to install 10.4.7, and get it upgraded to 10.4.9 with all my hardware working to some degree. (NEW: Upgraded to 10.4.10 now, running). First off, let me give you some basic specs. Asus P5ND32 Delux motherboard (nForce 4 chipset) P4 3.6 Ghz (SSE3, Hyperthreading, 64-bit) 2 gigs ddr2 memory (working at its full potential) Geforce 6800 GS (working with QE & CI but not at its full rate) PCI express 16x slot IDE hard drive 111 gb (The IDE is MCP 4) (Device ID 0035) (nVidia ID is 10de) I've tried every way of using IOATAFamily that i can find by searching. Doesn't work. Every time I mess up with this I have to boot from the CD, go to terminal, and type a bunch of stuff to restore it to be able to boot. I've tried every way of using AppleOnboardPCATA.kext, not working for me either. It ALWAYS GOES TO AppleGenericPCATADriver. One time I put AppleOnboardPCATA in the regular extensions folder like it says somewhere on the forum but it tells me in yellow when I boot: 17AppleOnboardPCATA is not compatible with its superclass, 8IOPCIATA superclass changed? kextload: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /Users/jakeverona/Desktop/AppleOnboardPCATA.kext load failed for extension /Users/jakeverona/Desktop/AppleOnboardPCATA.kext When I put that in IOATAFamily with my device ID, and deleted Applegenericpcatadriver, it said that AppleOnboardPCATA has no kernel dependency.. I'm so lost. My hard drive is going SOOO slow. 2mb/s. Please anyone who's had joy with this, please help me!!!! I've had to boot from the cd like 15 times and this is getting very frustrating. I just want my IDE drivers to work like so many people have had success with already. Even with my motherboard. I just can't figure this out, I guess I'm really noob to Mac and especially osx86 drivers. Thanks so much. -Jake Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/67134-nforce-4-ata-help-installing-resolved/ Share on other sites
Jake Verona
I'm now on 10.4.10, just upgraded. The upgrade went fine but now I have no QE or CI for my video, but it still seems to work the same, and i have resolution switching. As always, i had to reinstall my video drivers after the update. Anyways though, I'm still looking for info about nForce compatibility & drivers.. Thanks! I put my device ID's in.. What am I doing wrong? I just want my hard drive to work normally and not at 2mb/s.. Please help. Slip
It's not exactly clear what your setup is. Not sure I could help ya any how. Hmm how many ide ports are there. do you have a dvd and hardrive on one cable? that can choke the bus. have you tried the last nforce4 medevil release in your extensions folder with correct permissions etc. If you have a nforce 4 board thats incompatible , you could get a SIL 3132 sata card , if theres a pci-e 1x slot. AMD Always /Minor/ Difficulties Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/67134-nforce-4-ata-help-installing-resolved/#findComment-476770 Share on other sites
Jake Verona
There are 4 IDE ports. I have 2 dvd drives hooked up. I'm about to try the one you're talking about I think. AppleNForceATA. I'll let you know if it works. Do I have to edit it anywhere? Jake Verona
Ok, I got it to recognize the AppleNForceATA driver you recommended. Now here are my XBench scores: Results 45.14 System Info Xbench Version 1.3 System Version 10.4.10 (8R2232) Physical RAM 2048 MB Model ACPI Drive Type ST3120022A Disk Test 45.14 Sequential 81.15 Uncached Write 101.76 62.48 MB/sec [4K blocks] Uncached Write 69.63 39.40 MB/sec [256K blocks] Uncached Read 73.44 21.49 MB/sec [4K blocks] Uncached Read 87.05 43.75 MB/sec [256K blocks] Random 31.26 Uncached Write 10.91 1.15 MB/sec [4K blocks] Uncached Write 71.53 22.90 MB/sec [256K blocks] Uncached Read 81.72 0.58 MB/sec [4K blocks] Uncached Read 99.43 18.45 MB/sec [256K blocks] Is this good? It seems to me like the random writes & reads on 4k blocks are really slow. Thanks so much for the help though.
