hey guys,

is it possible to make the hardware that's not workin on mac work on parallels xp installation?

like i want to make xp detect the audio hardware to install the drivers and by that get mic and headphone.....did someone think of a hack to make xp bypass parallels on this issue?

i think that would be useful...like i dont have mic now, but if i get it on xp, ill install skype on xp and have it working.

what i mean is, u cant install xp drivers if parallels is not detecting the hardware because of mac not detecting it....can this be hacked to make xp see the hardware? coz i tried installing the xp audio drivers and it failed coz hardware not detected.

pls help about this issue.

thx

The only hardaware that you can "pass thru" from the Host to the Virtual machine are USB devices, and not all USB devices.

So no PCI cards, no Audio/video/network/disk controller.

for what i know , vmware fusion has not this limitation and can use usb soundcards too , even if there are not mac osx drivers!

May anyone please confirm it ?

Thanks

Mal

Interesting.. It would be useful for my network card that cannot be recognized under OS X.

that idea came to me, but from what ive seen, it cannot be recognized...but maybe there is a bypass or a crack that can be done...i dont know, that's why i posted this topic in the first place

It's not possible, since Parallels can only use the hardware that is recognized by the OS X installation.Maybe vmware works differently, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know?
This is the thing I was thinking about also.I'm going to get a Mac due to several reasons. I will also try to install Parallels due to good comments from my friends.I think that neither of the VMs will be able to handle this task, because the matter is in the hardware itself, not in the software. Still I don't understand will it work under VMWare? And another question: are there really some serious differences between Parallels and this VMWare. Actually I was unaware of its existence. I know I can surf through the net, but I think the users here are experienced in using both VMs
