Hi guys...

this is my 1st post here so i appologize in advance if i am breaking some rules of protocol that i am not yet familiar with...

i am interesred in running OS x86 on a number of PCs (particularly one w\ an Intel Chipset) but the more i read, the more confused i get.

the 1st matter of confusion is the veriety of ISO images available floating around the net.

I am in the prcocess of downloading the various parts of "Apple.OS.X.x86.10.4.Generic.Install.DVD" currently have 35/51 pieces and i also got half way thru downloading "tiger-x86.tar.bz2" before my internet connection went down.

which of the two images is easier to use?

which of the two images is newer?

which of the two do you recomend?

is there another ISO image (that i am currently unaware of) which might be better than the two mentioned above.

the top two candidates for undefoing this OS x86 install both have Windows XP on them at the moment so its no problem for me to simply follow the dual-boot instructions. (actually, one of these machines has a Windows 98 partition i havent used in about 3 years (which i will probably wipe) but i am pretty comfortable w\ multiple partitions etc etc so thats not a problem.

ideally i'd like to get to the point where i can wipe an HD completely and install a copy of OSx86 from scratch to a blank hard drive -- but the only info i've found so far on the web regarding this issue says that i should just stick w\ the images other people have created already and just use those.

second point of confusion is that "tiger-x86.tar.bz2" is roughly 1.3-something Gigs in size while the "Apple.OS.X.x86.10.4.Generic.Install.DVD" measures roughly 2 Gigs in size. further confusing matters is that i was told the final extracted image takes up about 6 Gigs on ones HD.

so many numbers.. how to add it all up?? i'm lost! can someone please point me in the right direction?

thanks in advance for taking the time to reply.

Exist a variety of images and OS X versions. I don't know that "Apple.OS.X.x86.10.4.Generic.Install.DVD", maybe it's the same than i used to install with DVD, but i can't to know it. I used 2 images to install osx86 in my pc, both are right and work perfectly, one is the "tiger-x86.tar.bz2" and the other is the "Marklar-Tiger.dmg" (maybe it's the same Generic DVD), the 1st is an image taken from a DTK intel pc (from HD) and the 2nd is a DVD image from the DTK installer DVD. The only method to know if some image is right, is to check the MD5 checksum and to compare with someone with that same image (with successful installation, of course). If you get some of them, only post the MD5 of it and i'll check against mine. Good Luck.
