I'm a firm believer in 'if it aint broke dont fix it' what do I gain from going to 10.4.10? My system is pretty stable
. . agree with the sentiment: 10.4.10 [eventually, & in my case using the XxX DVD] can be equally stable & fast; but there are a bunch of unfixed issues - with, f'rinstance USB audio - which will hopefully be fixed in 10.4.11, due soon & hopefully accompanied by 8.11.x kernel source so the kernel-hackers can produce full-featured OSX86 kernels..

What do you need 10.4.10 for? I use SSE2 machine so 10.4.10 is a bit difficult so I stay with 10.4.9 but wanted to use my iPhone with it. So i just went into ~/System/Library/CoreServices/ and found a plist file called SystemVersion. If you go in there and edit the two instances stating your OSX Version (i.e. I changed the two 10.4.9 instances into 10.4.10) and now the system believes it is 10.4.10 thus I can use my iPhone with it. Updater doesn't state that I need the 10.4.10 update anymore. Not sure what you needed it for but maybe that will help you with whatever you need while allowing you to keep the stability of your 10.4.9 installation.

Just for the sake of having the latest version... Besides, it's not that difficult if you have the time and have your important files backed-up.

I updated from 10.4.9 using Apple Software Update. I have an Intel SSE2 (non-HPET) CPU, so I kept the 8.9.1 kernel, and deleted the "AppleIntelCPUManagement.kext" from my extensions folder. Remember to backup, then restore your modified files after you update and before you reboot.

Here is the guide I used:
