While it is still fresh in my memory, here is what I did to get a hackintosh built today...

CPU: Intel E4500 2.2Ghz 2M Cache

Motherboard: Gigabyte 945GZM-S2 v6.6

Memory: 2 x 1GB Crucial DDR2-533 (PC4200)

HD: Seagate ST3320620SV SATA 320GB 7000rpm 16MB Cache

CD/DVD: Lite-On LH-20A1L SATA

Wireless: Linksys WMP300N (Broadcomm chipset) - "Use Intergerence Robustness"

Hackintosh OS: XxX_OS_x86_10.4.10_Install_Disk.iso

Parallels 3 + Windows XP Pro SP2

1) I did not need to tweak any bios settings to make this work, although I did disable the

serial and parallel ports. No sense wasting power there.

2) Drop in the install DVD and boot up...

3) When the DVD boots, run "Disk Utility" under the Utilities menu, select the hard drive click

Paratition. I chose to split the disk in two, as I plan to dual boot another XP for playing

windows games not supported with Parallels.

4) Click the options button and choose "Master Boot Record". I tried the default "GUID

Partition Table" a few times, but although I was able to complete OS X installation, it would

not boot displaying a "System config /com.apple.Boot.plist not found" error.

5) For the partition on which you plan to install OS X, give it a name and select "Mac OS

Extended (Journaled)" for the format.

6) Hit the Partition button to save and then quit Disk Utility. The installation program

relaunches.

7) Now under "Select Destination" your new partion will show up. Select and continue.

9) Select the following packages

-EssentialSystemSoftware

-Intel.SSE3 kernel essential.10.4.10

-RecomendedPaches

-VerboseMode

-CPUPowerManagement.kext_Remover

-System.Profiler.Patch

-GraphicDrivers

-Intel.Integrated.Graphics

-IntelGMA950

-AudioDrivers

-ALC.Audio.Drivers

-ALC883.Audio.6.ports

-NetworkDrivers

-RealtekR1000.Driver

10) Continue let the install finish and reboot

11) Software updater will report some updates. For me there were 3. I had no issues installing

the Airport Base Station, iTunes and Security Update.

12) Install Parallels 3 and run Parallels Desktop.

13) Drop the XP image in and install windows. I had difficulty with the windows installer, it

would seem to hang during the install. Stop the VM session and edit the configuration options.

Under XP->Advanced select Normal acceleration. I also ran into a problem near the end of the

windows install where you put in the CD key, where I kept getting an invalid key error. I tried

a number of keys, double checked for mixing up letters and numbers, but ultimately, pressing

"Back" and then "Next" in the instal wizard and then it took my key no problem.

14) After getting the windows load to SP2 with the high-priority updates, and the Parallels Tools,

take a snapshot.

15) I had problems installing .NET 1.1 (do not skip 1.1 and install 2.0, some programs need the

1.x package and installing 2.x then 1.x screws some things up). Power down windows and go back

to the Parallels configuration. Turn off profile sharing.

16) install .NET and any other optional windows updates, then go back and turn profile sharing

back on.

17) Coherence mode works great, you can move the Mac docking bar to the left or right if you like.

I turned off the windows->mac desktop items, I didn't like all the popups you had to go through

to use a windows desktop shortcut. Instead I moved all of the programs I really needed to the

windows quick-launch area.

18) Dungeon and Dragons Online does not run in the VM. You can install, launch and patch the

game, even log in and select the world to play, but you get an error after that. If someone has gotten it to work, i would love to hear from you.

- Hi . . sounds a successful install, & thanks for sharing it.

You'll find this sort of XP Pro SP2 install easier [much easier] if you prepare a slipstreamed [with up-to-date patches/hotfixes/components] CD for a partially or fully unattended install.

. . your hassles with the serial would have been sorted if you had prepared a 'winnt.sif' answer file, & all the updating, installation of '.NET' & so on would have been sorted by using HFSLIP, specifically the current SP2 list. The one major component I prefer to install separately, rather than use HFSLIP, is DirectX. IE7 integration [using T-13] works very well indeed.
