Asmodeus
I am pretty disappointed, I saw this motherboard and cpu combo on ebay and took a look at the WIKI page, saw that audio IN and OUT would work with SkippyRetard's HD Audio installer....and purchased the combo. As far as I can tell, audio is NOT supported, it works for audio out with azalia.....but NO audio IN or OUT with SkippyRetard's drivers. Am I missing something? I am guessing I am not....because when I use the search function it seems that everyone is simply using the azalia kext. I would be eternally gratefull if someone could point me in the direction to get audio in and out working. If not.....how do I inform someone about the WIKI being incorrect so others do not end up in the frustrating position I am in? Thanks in advance.....wonderful forum.....wish the search function was not so picky (I hate the errors when you type in less than 4 digit searchs). Thanks again. nano2nd
Hi, see the thread below: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=55067 It is a great little board for the money although the overclocking features are pretty thin. No solution there for audio in - we've tried it without success. My latest plan is to try a USB sound stick as an alternative to the onboard audio (waiting now for it to arrive via ebay). I will post an update once I've tested it out. I'm not so bothered about audio in but want to find a solution to the problem of having garbled sound following wake from sleep if I have overclocked. Asmodeus
Thanks for your reply.....I still think the WIKI should be updated.....as it is it is incorrect. Hopefully someone can get the audio completely working, it seems a lot of other 883 audio chips are completely supported. I love your G4 case mod,I understand that you have moved your motherboard into a PC case.....ironically I am thinking of doing the opposite. My old Sawtooth case is sitting next to me....waiting for the stuff. Should I refrain? Did you have heat issues in yours? Thanks again for the reply. Christopher D
would be nice to get the alc 883 audio inputs working. I'm currently toying with a 945GCT-M, which is basically the exact same board, but with a higher FSB. Using azalia currently, after the alc883 would detect, and show all 3 inputs and a speaker icon, but was not actually putting audio out any of the 3 ports. My old Sawtooth case is sitting next to me....waiting for the stuff. Should I refrain? Did you have heat issues in yours? Thanks for the compliment - I can't take much credit though as it has been done better by others before me and I'm just following in their footsteps. I had some minor heat issues. Because of the internal layout, when the case is closed, the CPU cooler butts up against the side of the PSU. I inverted the PSU so that its intake was directly above the CPU cooler and this made CPU temp drop by a couple of degrees. General performance was fine but if I did anything heavy like use Handbrake, temperature would get above 60 degrees C and I'd have to crank up the CPU fan, making things noisy again. Truth is, I probably would have lived with the minor heat/noise but then I bought a 7600GT Fatal1ty graphics card and the case won't close with it installed! The aluminium Gigabyte Aurora case I'm in now is fantastic by comparison - cool, quiet and lots of space. Of course, it is enormous (my MDD looks tiny standing next to it). From an aesthetics standpoint, I know it isn't an Apple case but the silver aluminium matches my Apple Cinema Display and new Apple keyboard.
