1. I have a Dell GX 260 with Windows XP and SUSE Linux running on the primary hard drive. I have a second (20 GB) hard drive, currently empty, where I would like to install OS X 86. A quick search of the HCL shows a couple of entries for GX260s running 10.4.6 and 10.4.8 so I thought someone with experience might check my hardware setup and see if it looks OK:

Dell GX260 Pentium 4@2 GHz, 1 GB RAM, Pioneer DVR-112, NVidia GeForce 5200 (128 MB) AGP video card. Should I pull the NVidia card and just use the onboard video set to 8 MB buffer?

2. I'm in the process of downloading Mac OS X 10.4.8 [JaS AMD-Intel-SSE2-SSE3 with PPF1 & PPF2].iso but at the rate it's coming in it may be a couple of days before the download is complete. This is the first time I've used BitTorrent, is this normal? I have Verizon FIOS and downloads are usually pretty fast; 4.4 GB shouldn't take so long. Since this is my first attempt to install OS X 86 I'm not even sure if I'm downloading the best installer for the GX 260. I pretty sure it needs an Intel SSE2 installer.

3. I do have an APPLE OEM 10.4 DVD but it is the PPC version, not the Intel version. Is it possible to build an OS X 86 installer image from the PPC version?

So, as the title says, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You will have a great experience with the hackintosh on that setup. One of my test hackintoshes is almost the exact same as yours. Keep the 5200 and install natit driver for full support. Audio should be working with the 10.4.8 JAS install disk. As for the download torrents speed changes with the amount of uploading you are doing. Generally the faster your upload the faster your download. Give it some time and the speed will increase as it can start out slow. Just remember the more seeders and leechers there are the better.

Thanks- It is just passing 15% and I will let it run... It is uploading 4x as fast as it's downloading, so I guess someone out there is benefitting! I've downloaded the Natit driver and a Universal GeForce installer package so I'm al ready to go whenever the download finishes.

So, the download is finally finished and I have burned a DVD. Of course my PC is at work and I am at home for the weekend, so I will try the installation Monday. I wouldn't be surprised if I am back on the forum with questions Monday morning....
