How to configure my HP LAPTOP gain access to a 40.128-bit hex wireless router?

My laptop is installed with MACOSX86 10.4.6, and my wireless card works fine as an airport connecting wireless routers without password. However I got "there was an error joining the AirPort Network". It seems that my MAC couldn't connect to WEP enabled wireless. Any solution?
